Notes

Backup while the server is running [Top of this page]

You can back up user data in Groupmax servers, such as the data in mailboxes, while the program running. You need not stop the server program for backup, so client programs, such as mail, can be used on a 24 hours a day. Note, however, that you need to stop the service to acquire full backup once in a week or once a month in real operation.

We provide a sample file, showing how to take backups while the server is running, that users can customize on their own to back up server data.
Using JP1/Script programs for backups helps operate the system with higher availability.

Facilities you can back up

In addition to backing up electronic mail (as mentioned above), this version allows you to back up the following facilities while the system is running:
We recommend stopping the server to back up workflow user data. (We do plan to support this backup functions for workflows in the future.)

- Managing by the domain name system (DNS) [Top of this page]

In version 03-10, a new server product is supported to for management by the domain name system.
This facility enables you to better manage the IP addresses of the Groupmax version 3 servers by a name server.

The DNS (Domain Name System) is a mechanism for translating domain names into IP addresses widely used in IP networks, typically the Internet, to resolve mail addresses or the URLs of web servers.

Notes
Note that there are some limitations on using DNS not covered here for lack of space. For details, contact Hitachi (send e-mail to the address on the bottom of this page).

Programs for which DNS is supported
DNS is supported for all the programs shipped as Groupmax Version 3. 16-bit clients are not supported for DNS.

Security for checking password settings [Top of this page]

In version 03-10, the following facilities are now supported: You need version 03-10 or a later version of the client program to display messages about this function's checking of client users.

Enhanced batch registration utility for address information [Top of this page]

Supporting mailbox capacity settings

You can specify mailbox capacities as an option when using the gmaxchk, gmaxset and gmaxexp batch registration utility commands provided by Address Server to register, move, change or output the information of user or organization.

Facility for checking the size of mail or a bulletin board news item to be sent [Top of this page]

You can limit the size of a mail item or news item sent from a client by the server side.

This facility checks the size of a mail item or news item sent from a client at the time when it is stored into the server. This facility is useful, for example, to protect receive mailboxes from a large size mail sent by mistake.

The size of the mail or news item is checked after the data is transferred from the client to the server; therefore, the load on the network between the server and the client for sending data cannot be reduced.
You need version 03-10 or a later version of the client program to display messages about this function's checking of client users.

Enhanced workflow management monitor [Top of this page]

In Groupmax Workflow Monitor, you can delete user work logs in a multiserver environment.
