Network Management for Windows

Introduction

Hitachi proudly presents the Network Management system for Windows which runs on Windows NT(R) platforms. The core part of this product is "Network Node Manager for Windows NT". Hitachi developed this Windows NT version based on HP OpenView Network Node Manager ( UNIX version). Since December, 1995 Hitachi has been selling this product in Japanese domestic market with other Hitachi's software program products.

Background

Recent high-performance PC makes it possible for you to manage your enterprise sized networks. Hitachi's Windows NT products for your network management is the first integrated network management system in the world. The system provides some rich features for you such as an easy user interface, and a hierarchical management approach for large sized network. Further more it will work with our legacy UNIX based system in a hierarchical management system. With this new product Hitachi is able to give you more options to build the best fit management system for your network.

• Configuration management
  1. The automatic discovery functionality makes it easy to install and start up the product. It will discover all IP nodes automatically and it will also discover a newly created IP node under the runtime environment.

  2. You may check the network with the appropriate view window (e.g. network map, segment map ) provided by the product.
     
     
  3. MIB builder allows you to add management capability for the Enterprise extended MIB.
     
     
  4. With the tree type new graphical display, you may easily browse MIB information.

  5. The product automatically creates a map window with appropriate symbols based on collected attributes of network resources.
     
  
  
• Fault management
  1. The product is able to show you the fault location by changing symbol color. You may identify a cause of network fault using the logging information retrieval function.

  2. The product ( manager ) collects management information from agents. You may configure the management polling time interval.

• Performance management
  1. Without programming, you can monitor performance data such as packet traffic and CPU usage ratio.

  2. The product periodically collects performance data and accumulates it. Using this accumulated data the product draws a graphical chart. PC spread sheets application can use this accumulated data.
     
     
  3. If you set the threshold, you may monitor threshold crossing events.

SubManager

- To reduce management message traffic, a manager of this product does not manage each agent directly.
Instead of it, SubManager manages a set of agents and Network Node Manager checks the MIB data of the SubManager.
- SubManager has a filter to forward trap reports from agent to manager. A SubManager also has thresholds and reports traps to a manager if the threshold is crossed.
