Groupmax Mail - SMTP is a gateway system which enables the Groupmax Mail system to exchange data with other types of e-mail systems using SMTP*.
By introducing Groupmax Mail - SMTP, Groupmax users can send or receive mail messages with users in other systems through networks.
* SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is a protocol which realize mail transfer on Internet.
Facilities of Groupmax Mail - SMTP
The main features of Groupmax Mail - SMTP is the mutual conversion of data and addresses between SMTP mail and mail using an X.400 mail service. X.400 is an e-mail service regulated by international communication standards. Groupmax Mail uses X.400 for internal system communication. Groupmax Mail - SMTP specifically processes the following:
- Converting an SMTP mail message received from an outside system to an X.400-protocol message so that Groupmax Mail can handle it.
- Converting a mail message created by a Groupmax Mail user to an SMTP mail message so that it can be sent to an outside system.
Mail transfer by Groupmax Mail - SMTP
Groupmax Mail - SMTP also transfers mail messages, in addition to converting mail. Already existing facilities are used for handling mail. Groupmax Mail - SMTP mainly uses the following facilities:
- sendmail
- The "sendmail" software is used for sending and receiving SMTP mail.
- X.400
- This protocol is used for sending and receiving X.400 mail between Groupmax Mail and Groupmax Mail - SMTP.
- uuencode and uudecode
- The "uuencode" and "uudecode" commands are used when a user in a system without an X.400 server exchanges binary data with a Groupmax Mail user.
- MIME
- MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions) protocol is an extended facility of SMTP and used for sending and receiving data other than ASCII data.
