On October 1, 2012, CA Technologies support released "CA20121001-01: Security Notice for CA License (Display new window)" concerning a vulnerability in CA ARCserve Backup, CA ARCserve D2D, and CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup.
An attack by a malicious local user can exploit this vulnerability to execute commands with system or administrator privileges, create or modify arbitrary files and gain elevated access.

The following vulnerability was found in CA ARCserve Backup r16 for Windows, CA ARCserve Backup r15 for Windows, CA ARCserve Backup r12.5 for Windows, CA ARCserve D2D r16 for Windows, CA ARCserve D2D r15 for Windows, and CA ARCserve Central Host-Based VM Backup r16.

  • An unprivileged user can exploit this vulnerability to execute commands with system or administrator privileges.
  • An unprivileged user can exploit this vulnerability to create or modify arbitrary files and gain elevated access.
