Hitachi Intelligent Power IC

Structure Free from Latch-up. Opens the Door to New Applications.

The Hitachi high-voltage monolithic IC is an intelligent power IC, developed based on a unique dielectric separation technology. Because it's possible to design a latch-up-free structure, various IC formations are possible, even if high-voltage, large-current output circuits and logic circuits are mixed. Compared with conventional discrete substrate-based hybrid ICs, downsizing can be effected.

Monolithic configuration of logic portions and power switch portions is possible. There is no mutual interference, not only between devices but between devices and substrates as well. The structure of the Hitachi high-voltage monolithic IC, developed based on dielectric separation technology, is shown in the diagram at below. Unlike conventional PN-junction separation, devices are separated through Si02 films. Because it's possible to design a latch-up-free structure, it has become possible to form monolithic connections between the logic circuit and the power switch portion and reinforce their high-voltage characteristics. Because the circuit layout is easy, a variety of devices and circuits can be incorporated, so the IC can be adapted to custom specifications.
