LDAP adopted in Groupmax Logo

Groupmax adopts a directory service based on LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) to ensure address integration with domains*. This allows you to browse addresses of each domain via the network.
* A domain is one of the features that the Groupmax system provides.

Why is LDAP adopted?

Groupmax adopts LDAP because of:

Integration of information
You can integrate directory information because the directory server supports LDAP.
Less workload for system administrators
Using an LDAP-compliant product to integrate the system can help reduce the overhead on the system.
Better connectivity with non-Hitachi systems
You can send mail from a non-Hitachi system client that also supports LDAP, as well as browse user addresses in the Groupmax domain.
De facto standard
LDAP described in RFC (Request For Comments) is a de facto standard. Companies supporting the LDAP protocol include Netscape Communications,Novell,Banyan,IBM/Lotus, Microsoft, and so on.
The next section describes LDAP and the directory service.
LDAP and the directory service

You can use the directory service to easily search for data on the network. LDAP is used to order to implement this service. The LDAP protocol lets you access directories on the network at a high speed and acquire available information.
The directory service integrates:

Resources on the network
The directory service classifies resources on the network by attributes, such as organization, unit, personnel, and server. To do this, each resource requires a unique name. Each resource is stored in a directory and the format of types and attributes of each resource complies with IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).
Databases
The directory service provides databases that can store information about resources. To search a database, use one of the following:
White Pages:
lists names in alphabetical order.
Yellow Pages:
lists categories, for example, by the type of business.
Browsing:
lists names in hierarchical order by some specified conditions.
Distributed systems
The server that supports the directory service is designed to work with distributed systems. If necessary, the entire system may consist of multiple servers. You can easily configure a directory database because the directory server, for example, Netscape Directory Server, Groupmax Directory Server, or Lotus Pages Server, can be linked to existing databases.
