Hitachi has licensed its Groupmax Workflow, a feature of Hitachi's integrated groupware, Groupmax to Samsung SDS based in South Korea.

Hitachi started marketing Groupmax as a tool for promoting Japanese Business Process Reengineering (BPR) in December 1994. In June 1996 and January 1998, Hitachi enhanced Groupmax extensively.
Groupmax Workflow provides advanced facilities for constructing substantial workflow systems. Workflow provides a graphical environment for defining business processes and monitoring how those processes are getting done in a workplace. It also provides links with core systems such as mainframes and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange. Moreover, Workflow has been highly acclaimed, not only in Japan, but also overseas, for its outstanding performance. Workflow can control flows in a multiple-servers environment to achieve high scalability; it can develop workflow systems that run on Web browsers to promote intranets; and it can provide a reliable error-recovery function using Cluster Server for Windows NT.

Samsung SDS, a world leader in systems integration and telecommunications, is one of the largest software manufacturers in South Korea. In 1997, the company released its own groupware product, UniWare. Also, in response to the need for electronic documents and for utilizing personal computers for intranets, Samsung SDS announced an enriched version of UniWare called UniWare99, that provides a full-fledged workflow system, UniFlow on the 4th of September. Samsung SDS will be participating in Comdex Korea, a trade exhibition held from the 5th to 9th of September, 1998.

Samsung SDS has developed UniFlow which supports the Korean language by modifying the source codes of Groupmax Workflow.
Commenting on why they decided to adopt Groupmax Workflow, a Samsung spokesperson said,
"We compared and evaluated most of the famous workflow products from different companies, and chose Groupmax Workflow because it was a full-feature workflow system that enjoys a good reputation. We hope to cooperate with Hitachi exclusively in solutions business and other middle software development in the future."

Hitachi will continue enhancing Groupmax facilities including Groupmax Workflow, and will strive to develop new facilities to construct more effective and sophisticated workflow systems.
