On June 10, Hitachi Limited will begin shipping Groupmax Version 2.0. Groupmax is a software product that integrates groupware and workflow systems. You can use all facilities of Groupmax Version 2.0 (such as e-mail, scheduling, and document manager) from WWW browsers. It is the first software product in this field to enable all facilities (including mail to a workflow system) to be used via the Internet or in intranets. Groupmax can easily be used with data warehouse systems because Groupmax Version 2.0 employs a Java-based agent facility.

Recently, groupware and workflow systems have become widespread as businesses and organizations aim at reengineering business processes and aim at improving white-collar productivity. The more the Internet is used in companies, the greater the need for an open multi-platform global system which can handle both in-company information in intranets and outside-company information via the Internet. In particular, being able to use a workflow system seamlessly with the Internet and intranets is becoming increasingly important to promote the globalization of companies.

In December 1994, Hitachi Limited provided Groupmax as a tool to promote business processing reengineering. In August 1995, Hitachi enhanced the document management facility so that it is usable with WWW browsers. Many companies use Groupmax because it can be easily incorporated into the organizations used in Japanese companies and it can be used immediately after installation.

Groupmax Version 2.0 enables you to use a WWW browser to access all facilities such as e-mail, electronic bulletin boards, document manager, electronic forms, scheduling, and workflow. In this field, Groupmax is the first software product in which all facilities from mail to the workflow system can be connected to both the Internet and intranets. For example, by using the Java-based agent facility, you can mail analysis reports from a data warehouse system and reflect them in your business strategy.

Groupmax Version 2.0, which can now be incorporated with intranets and data warehouses, enables you to built global groupware and workflow systems. Groupmax is a powerful decision support tool.
