On March 20, 2007, CA announced on their Security Notice for CA ARCserve Backup Tape Engine and Portmapper (Display new window) that BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1, BrightStor ARCserve Backup Release 11, and BrightStor ARCserve Backup v9 are vulnerable to buffer overflows and DoS (Denial of Service) attacks.
Malicious remote users can exploit these vulnerabilities and execute arbitrary code.

The following vulnerabilities were found in BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5, BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1, BrightStor ARCserve Backup Release 11, and BrightStor ARCserve Backup v9:
- Malicious remote users can exploit the buffer overflow vulnerability and execute arbitrary code on backup servers where BrightStor ARCserve Backup products are installed.
- Malicious remote users can exploit the DoS vulnerability and crash a service on backup servers where BrightStor ARCserve Backup products are installed.
