Smart Grid is a concept of a next-generation power distribution grid that flexibly controls the flow of electric power by fully utilizing the latest information technologies to monitor the condition of electricity consumption and generation, achieving a balance between "demand" and "supply," even in the future, when demand and supply will further diversify due to full electrification, wind power generation, etc.
Hitachi owns a wide range of information/communications and control technologies that will be required for Smart Grid. These technologies include a communication technology for advanced metering infrastructure and grid stabilizing technology to mitigate any negative impact on the grid due to the increasing number of new power sources having unstable output. Hitachi will develop and provide Smart Grid-related systems that fully utilize Hitachi's competitive proprietary technologies in both the power/electric machinery and information/communications fields.
